If those figures are approximately accurate, that would mean Abby sails 11.35 miles to gain 10 as the crow flies.

I calculate total distance for the trip at 26,650 nm with 19,490 remaining after Cape Horn.

Here's my forecast based on different speeds:

July 26th---with an average of 130 nm per day.
August 7th--with an average of 120 nm per day.
August 26th-with an average of 111 nm per day.

The main reason why we all hope for a fast trip is weather concerns especially towards the south coast of Australia as storms would more likely be bigger as the Fall season advances.

So Abby, sail fast girl!Bob from Seattlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04672671655687291088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1578399656308603032.post-90597580258251008122010-04-07T15:07:51.025-07:002010-04-07T15:07:51.025-07:00Abby,

Others have said also not much fun searching for leaks down in the bilge and dangerous as well. You two young ladies, Yourself and Jessica, are inspiring the world all over and you will have a greater following than you could ever imagine before you are done. Australians and Americans are like kin and we back you the same as we do our own. Having the heart and determination to do what it is that you want to achive. I can see that like Jesse you are able to take the knocks and then get on with it. You write so well and have a good level head. I pray that your team keep you informed and are watching Back. A blog that gave you advise re vessels of any kind making way directly towards you is good advise but I am sure your team have that in hand. Hopefully this will allow you to soon swing north to warmer latitudes, waters and more comfortable cabin temperatures. You may need the cool if you are as a precaution wearing your dry suit. Water at 44°F is seriously hypothermic, so do all you can to stay dry. DDW is not my favorite point of sail either. Since, a veer in the wind, unexpected gybe, in a daysailer caught me (as live ballast)off-sides leading to a capsize. I was astonished at how quickly it happened. Glad to hear you are setting your course to avoid this possiblity despite the loss of miles to good.
I expect you are busy writing a special edition for today's blog to celebrate the passage.

Dan - outside the Windy City, Chicago USAAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1578399656308603032.post-16372038488144843402010-03-30T19:02:05.357-07:002010-03-30T19:02:05.357-07:00Hi Abbey, I look forward to reading your blog

I know you've heard this 1000 times, but I am thouroughly impressed and inspired by you, your resolve, your cool head, and your capabilities. I tried my own LITTLE solo backpacking trip across the Utah Uinta mountains last summer and failed due to some equipment problems. Your experiences, blog, and resolve have inspired me to definitley make another attempt at my own goal this season. Keep it up, be careful, and have a FUN but otherwise uneventful trip around the Cape! I'll be following you closely from here on out! :)Nate J.http://www.natesaerie.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1578399656308603032.post-12401586181142217782010-03-30T17:47:18.616-07:002010-03-30T17:47:18.616-07:00From Huntington Beach, CA
