Sailing Solo

I plan to be leaving to sail solo around the world this time next year. For three years now I have wanted to do this trip, before my brother ever came up with the idea! Even though I did come up with the idea before Zac ever did, it is due somewhat to him that I am actually doing it now.

I had begun to think that dreams are meant to be no more than dreams and that in reality dreams don't come true. Then my brother left on his trip. It was amazing to see all the support that he got from around the world and to see how everyone worked together to help make his dream reality. Watching him do this really made me believe that I could too.

I'll be keeping a blog now to keep every one updated on my progress.

  1. Wow that is so exciting Abby! Are you now trying to break Zac's record?

  2. Go Abby, Go Abby, Go Abby! I loved being virtual crew on your brother's boat and I would be honored to follow your trip and pray you through as well!

  3. Good luck Abby!!! With you all the way!

  4. Hi Abby - best of luck to you. Onboard. I'm a sailor from Santa Cruz with a little Pacific Seacraft Dana. Ambitions to sail coastal CA and Hawaii.

My wife and I attended Zacs welcome on Thursday. Saw you selling Zac's stuff in the booth. Got some great pictures of the event yesterday. Totally worth the drive down.

You can do this sail too! It's in the family.

    One day at a time.

  5. Hi, Abby!
Enjoyed meeting you on Wednesday. Courageous just to put it out there -- what you want to accomplish. See what support comes your way. Many adventurous young women role models. Hope you can spend a lot of time with Zac and your parents, learning, planning, preparing. Best!

  6. Well i hear you are the better sailor so i have no doubt that you can do this! Will definitely support you 110% :)

  7. Onya, Abby!

Found a boat yet? Bruce Schwab's Ocean Planet (Open 60) is for sale in Maine. Might it be advantageous to depart from the East Coast come early summer, for a trip round SA and then the Capes?

  9. Hi! How are you doing? Is sailing around the world fun because I am going to do it myself some day. I am only 11 years old but I have ben sailing for 5 years and I love it.

Now you can do it!You have a lot of guts to do something like that at age 16!

  10. Wow, good luck sailing. I've been sailing for three years now, but I don't think it'll ever be anything more than a hobby. I'm excited to read about all of your adventures on the high seas!

  11. Hi Abby. Following your progress with great interest. Will keep in touch. LH@MB

  12. Hi Abby, I have read that you endured extremely stormy weather, several knockdowns, and that your emergency beacon has been activated. I know that there are many people out there now looking for you. I hope they find you, and bring you home safely, that once again you'll see familiar channel markers slipping past your stern as you come into port. That is the wish of those who go to sea.

Tonight, I shall drink a wee spot of rum, and shall hoist a glass to your safe return.

  13. I will pray for your safe return...I am sure that God is with you, guiding you and watching over you every minute, every second of the day...

  14. Thank God for His saving hands! I was praying for your safety... Wish you all the best!!!

  15. Hang in there Abby,I have confidence in you.May God watch over you.Following you all the way.

  16. you are a courageous free spirit
obviously born of the wind and the sea
for such a short life span to exhibit such unwavering strength gives us all hope
I wish you all good things as you go forward in life........

  17. "I had begun to think that dreams are meant to be no more than dreams and that in reality dreams don't come true."

I am in total awe of your courage and spirit. By following your passion and facing fear head-on, you have demonstrated to the world that one must follow their dreams. In doing so yourself - you will be blessed with a fortitude that will support you in all your future goals.

    To paraphrase Thoreau:
SUCCESS is the ability to fully experience life.

KUDOS and thanks for being such an inspiration....

  18. You are an inspiration to me and my daughter. I've been telling her about your trip and your incredible courage. I am glad that I am alive -- now, here -- to be able to hear about your journey.

  19. Amy, sorry to hear about your losing the boat. Hope you continue to pursue your dreams! Have a great rest of your adventure on the way home.

  20. A good and interesting site, by the way a pretty picture ... :)
