The sea I travel
ReplyDeleteCan't know my destination
But it supports me
Dear Abby,
ReplyDeleteYour goal to sail around the world at this age is just incredible. I'm also a 16 year old sailor and reading this totally inspired me. I'll be checking this blog every day to see how everything is going...you seem like an awesome person and you're so brave to do this. Good luck!
Good Luck Abbey
ReplyDeleteLove those wild eyes at water level.
ReplyDeleteGo Sologirl !!!
abby i wish you the best of luck i am fourteen and also in love with sailing and i wish too, to be able to do what you did yesterday!!!!!!! good luck and i hope you have a great trip!!!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck on the sea! This takes a lot of guts and bravery!! I am a 24 year old former marine of 5 years. And although I have no sailing experience, I wouldn't even dream of doing this. You've got guts girl!
ReplyDeleteDear Abby,
ReplyDeleteYesterday I watched you take off on your trip around the world and you were amazing!!!!!!!
I am a 14 year old who has been sailing for a long time!! This inspired me to do some many things and showed so many people what women can do these days!!!!! I will read your blog everyday to see how your trip is going!
hope everything goes great!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK! :]
Dear Abby, A few years ago I saw Lord Chichester's boat by the Thames in Greewnwich and was amazed at his achievement -like yours- in such a small craft. Best of luck, will follow you everyday.
ReplyDeleteRoberto
hope you have an amazing trip and adventrue around the world!!!!!! good luck
ReplyDeleteYou don't get what you hope for,...you get what you go for! Great job to you for going for it! Stay the course and safe travels to you at sea, Abby Sunderland! - Chief Dawson, U.S. Navy.
ReplyDeleteNoon news in Philadelphia a. showed Abby starting her quest. Fair winds with calm seas - will be listening and watching
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely terrific photos! Thanks for posting them. I particularly liked the photo with "Wild Eyes" and "Intrepid," and the photos with Zac and Abby. "Wild Eyes" looks pretty shipshape and ready to go, and Captain Abby looks confident and determined.
ReplyDeleteTo Abby and all of the Sunderlands and the rest of the team, I say congratulations, and to Abby I say a very heartfelt Godspeed.
Just found your story this morning and have read all of your blogs !!! I just moved to Marina del Rey in August 2009. I will follow you everyday. God bless and Godspeed to you Abby. What a proud family you must have supporting you.
ReplyDeleteGo Abby.. good luck and wishing you the best..
ReplyDeleteI hope peoples emails and comments keep you entertained on this long journey..
Good grief, what were they putting in the drinking water in 1992 and 1993 that conceived so many courageous independent young sailors? I guess for Laura Deckker we'd have to figure it was also in the water...or the stars, in what, 1995?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, what beautiful photos--and quite an eye catching boat! I'm so glad you ladies like "wild" paint jobs! It's fun to look at and a nice safety feature!
Yes, I confess; I'm a Jessica fan. My husband heard on the news yesterday morning (Jan 23) that you were starting *your* voyage, and knowing what a fan I'd become of Jessica's he offered to take me to see you off--- so we scurried on up (from Orange County) to Marina Del Rey, but sadly, we missed you.
Mind you, I'm not in favor of young girls sailing around the world by themselves in general, but, like Jesse, it sounds like you have experience, did a great deal of preparation educationally, physically, and supply wise, and equally important; have a strong team of sailors, family, friends, and technicians to advise (and pray for) you.
So Best of luck and I hope to be following along on your blog.
Blessings,
Tracie
Hi Abby :)

Hi Abby! Being and ex-U.S. Navy Sailor myself and having sailed around the World, I know that 'feeling' of following your dreams. I've had that same 'feeling' since I was 5 years old (see my Blog) that I had that I was destined to see the World. I have visited 20 Countries (since I was 20 yr's old). I got my 'sea legs' when I was in the middle of a wicked Typhoon in the South China Sea and a Hurricane in Hawaii! Anyway, if you need any sailing advice or just feel lonely and want to chat, then you can find me on Google or MSN.com or even on Yahoo. I wish you all the best and fair winds and smooth sailing.
ReplyDeleteLeRoy
Wishing you all the best, god's speed. live life! thats the way.

My family is so inspired by you Abby! You will be in our prayers throughout your journey! We are boat people ourselves with a son who just turned 16 on January 20th (how strange is that huh!! your sailing date!!) and a 12 year old daughter who look forward to sailing someday; so seeing you do this at 16 years old is beyond inspiring!! Always remember that you can do ALL things through Christ who gives you strength!! And that you are never, ever alone out there!!! God bless you!!!
ReplyDeleteDear Abby,
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome and I wish you the best of luck. Let's hope you have clear skies and strong winds. I'm 12 and started sailing last year. I will never have nearly as much expirience as you and will probably will never be able to go around the world by myself but I still love sailing, especially by myself. I took sailing camps this summer and have been sailing with my dad multiple times. I love the wind blowing at you and I love the power you have when you are at the wheel (or tiller). You are my role model not just because you sail but because you followed your dream annd now it's coming true. Best of luck Abby! I'll be cheering for you all the way!
Good luck abby and God speed! I followed your brother zac on most of his trip around the world and even met him at the Do hard things Conference in July. I will be checking to see how u do! =D
ReplyDeleteWe will be reading your blog regularly and wishing you success in this amazing adventure.

ReplyDeleteGood Luck Abby. I have been facinated by solo sailing around the world, since I read about Robin Graham and The Dove in Nat Geographic mnay years ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful pic of Wild Eyes and Intrepid sailing alongside each other. One boat and sailor who has seen it, lived it and back, and one boat and sailor who has yet to see it all and live it. Wish you all the best Abby....

Dear Abby~
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome and a true inspiration. I just turned 50, my husband left, and I am losing my home. Your great adventure and brilliant courage has given me hope that I can accomplish what I need and want in life -- even at this late age!
I will learn from you and I will prepare for this "great adventure" that has come my way.
Thank you for sharing your story. God is with you, His heavenly angels surround you to protect you, He will never give more than you can bear.
Warm hugs and constant prayers for your safety and your success!
Best of luck Abby! Hope you brought some good music! -Billy B Coventry, RI
ReplyDeleteAs a competitive Chesapeake sailor and ex-Navy navigator I greatly admire your bravery and determnation on your quest. You have the fortunate ability to do something in such early years that many others of us dream of somehow fitting in between retirement and pushing a walker. Maybe someday, I can be one of the OLDest to make that voyage. Stay safe and good luck!
ReplyDeleteAbby,
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of your departure are fantastic. I got a chance to see GMA this morning and you and Wild Eyes looked great. It looked like the weather turned out to be nice even if the wind was a little light to start you trip. How nice for Mike Perham and his family to send their regards in your blog. All of the young circumnavigators are setting such a good example for all of us who are following your adventures. You’re all a class act. Hope all goes well as you settle into your routine, Abby.

ReplyDeleteHi Abby,
Glad to see you got away safely from all the well wishers at the dock. I hope you're enjoying your 'freedom' and solitude.
I would imagine that it will take you few days to settle into a routine aboard the boat, just like moving into a new neighborhood or starting in a new school. I know that you are familiar with "Wild Eyes" but your work will be different, you're not doing so much maintenance (some preventive maintenance) or studying (in a sense) but now you are working at sailing "Wild Eyes", which would call for a different approach and different concentration.
I’m not trying to be ‘bossy’ but you should get yourself organized and at ease with your new situation, then clobber us with blogs and pictures. Yes…
I am anxious to read that first blog though.
Will we be able to follow you with your longs. and lats, or are you going to keep that quite? IMO you shouldn’t advertise that.
Well Abby, take good care of yourself and be careful at all times.
Good luck to you.
May God hold you in the palm of His hand and may the Angels keep your sails full, and I, I will be praying for you.
Michael (75) from Kingwood, WV

Are you able to check your water. To make sure it is staying good. How long will it stay fresh, on the boat. It is good that the water is always moving. It helps keep it fresh..Stay Healthy. Dave N.

Hey Captain, Happy you are safe in Cabo. Can't help but wonder about the boat problems after reading" Alan Paris "journey in the same boat. He mentioned problem with rigging, "- also tearing the propeller apart - assembling it the wrong way--I suppose my concern is "will you carry spare parts?"-Most important will you have gudiance to do tough repais ? I know you have a great team -but all respect -they can miss problems. Please add" epoxy" to your list of needs in Cabo. Looking forward to your next blog Sandi
ReplyDeleteGod speed and farewell!
ReplyDeleteIf there were always fair winds and following seas, there would be no adventure and challenge, no point to the voyage!
ReplyDeleteI know that you, at your age, know what I am talking about.
With some of us, that need for adventure never goes away in our lifetime.
It has never gone away for me.
I'm sure that you didn't go out there to sit and knit mittens, or crochet.
I wonder if you have learned celestial navigation for this trip? I hope so.
There's nothing like the sextant and celestial tables when all else fails.
Never depend entirely on your electronic nav systems!
I salute your courage!
I wish you the best of adventures, Abby.
Stay safe, and may Posiedon smile on you.
