It has been my dream since I was 13 years old and began single-handing, to one day sail solo around the world. I am 16 years old and this blog will contain the story of my attempt to become the world's youngest solo circumnavigator. Visit my official website at www.abbysunderland.com.
Abby,
ReplyDeleteAn amazing accomplishment! We're so exicted for you and very very impressed. Enjoy the visit with your Dad and Zac.
Hey girl - how does it feel to be steady on the land after 100 days at sea? SO glad to see the pix of you with Zac -- and that's your dad, right?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the hot meals, hot showers and hope you get the rest you need before setting sail again☺☺☺ Cheering you on from the midwest!! xoxo
Awesome pics. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAbby's looking at that South African fry like she doesn't know what to do with it! :-)
Wild Eyes, looks remarkably clean, sails still white as they day she left, hull and body zero fouling. Looks good. Though the broken eye looks a bit creepy. Can they fix it or maybe paint a patch over it? Somewhat of a creepy omen travelling around with it looking like that.
Welcome to Cape Town Abby. By the way, in case you didn't notice, that "black smoke" you saw, was The Lord telling you "Welcome to Cape Town" as well. Glad you made it in good shape. You've
ReplyDeletegot a lot to do, but don't cut any corners. Have a good day, and may God continue to bless you. Norm :-> :-> Sacramento, CA U.S.A.
Can I borrow your boat (Wild Eyes) after you're done with it? I want to give it a shot. It looks like a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteCaptain Abby and Team,
ReplyDeleteEnjoying the photos. Great one of the smiling Sunderland threesome. And it looks like a french fry won over the cold drink as the first thing Abby really wanted upon arrival?
Thanks to Eben Human.
And to the Cape Grace Hotel....now that's service!!
Rest up Abs....have fun.

Dear Abby,
ReplyDeleteI hope you are still sleeping in your warm and dry bed! You deserve the rest!
These pictures of you are awesome! Keep them coming!
Warm wishes from Kansas,
Judy
This is the first chance I got to see the side of your boat!. Love the eyes girl!. Wow...Those shots are awesome... Can't wait to see what the L.A. Times writes about ya when u get back here!!
ReplyDeleteHey Abbey, Have a great visit with your family! Wild Eyes is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! I was just thinking that the black smoke must be the Lord's confirmation that you made the right decision stopping at Cape Town. And now Zac and your dad get to be part of the memory-making mid-voyage!

Welcome to Cape Town, Abby. You're amazing. Come back soon and experience Africa's East Coast, Madagascar, Chagos. There's plenty of great sailing east of here. May the Southern Cross and Orion guide you well!

AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Good luck with the rest of your journey!
ReplyDeleteAfter eating all that Mountain House, you look a little leary of that french fry. It's like those contestants on Survivor when they win a feast, it can be a shock to your system. Thanks for all the great pics :)

Hi Abby... Glad you have made it safely into CapeTown. Great pics and you look great. Now relax, enjoy, eat some great food and have fun while you are there.
ReplyDeleteLord loves you and so do we.
Bud and Charla Winnett
Great photos! Hope you enjoyed that cheeseburger and fries and ice cold soda!
ReplyDeleteAh ha ha ha!! They must have thought, "Hmmm, what will make Abby feel right at home?? A CHEESEBURGER!"
ReplyDeleteI bet it was probably one of the best burgers you'll eat, if you even ate all of it. I know after being out to sea for so long, it's hard to eat a full meal once on land again.
Well good to know your safe, fed and CLEAN!
Let us know how the repairs are going once they get under way!
XOXO - Alana
Go, Abby, go!
ReplyDeleteHi Abby i'm glad you made it in to shore. Hi Abby.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting these photos. Nice of the hotel to give you a nice meal when you arrived. I know I'd probably eat that in a heartbeat if I was going on freeze dried food for the last 3 months, but that's me.
Try and find some time to relax and enjoy Cape Town while you're there. It seemed from earlier posts you seemed a little uneasy and nervous. Try and enjoy yourself when you go back out to sea.
I really admire you for what you're doing, and as I said in an earlier comment, there's probably only a handful of people that are living their dream, and you are one of them, sailing around the world.

Thanks for the photos.........can we have some with abby up the mountain? And some of the area her boat is in? Hey, Abby! had a good shower?? Get the hotel to get you some special grapes that grow there called Hanepoort ( the "a" sounds like the "a" in "harm", the e is prounounced just like "uh" and the "poort" as in "poor". They are like none other!!! And in season now! If i did not tell you how to prounounce it they would not know what on earth you are asking for!
ReplyDeleteThanks again and have heaps of fun and fresh food,
Caroline

ReplyDeleteHi Abby,
ReplyDeleteYou look so happy in those photograghs.
Enjoy your time in Cape Town. You are truly an
inspiration to many of us. Especially those of us who are too scared to live their dreams the way you have.
Having watched you and Jessica fulfill your dreams, it has inspired me at the age of 52 to actually do something I've always wanted to do.
I'm going to university next year. I've made enquiries and have also worked out the best way complete the course I intend to undertake.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being my inspiration.
All the best for the remainer of your wonderful adventure.
God bless.

ReplyDeleteHi Abby,
Thanks for the pictures, everyone looks so happy, I wonder why…lol…
Hey, did you think the French fry was going to bite you before you could bite it???…lol… Loved the pinky bit though, sooooo dainty!!!!
Take good care of yourself down there and maybe you could ‘air’ out Charlie and Mr. Doggie, how are they holding up???
Sounds like you’re being treated very well at the Cape Grace Hotel enjoy, so enjoy yourself and get plenty of food and rest.
Your faithful friend, fan and follower.

Darn you Abby!
ReplyDeleteThe pics you posted of you being reunited with your dad and brother made me tear up! NOT GOOD FOR A 50 YEAR OLD DAD OF FIVE! Actually, your bravery really brings out the dad in me even though you don't know me and I don't know you! Were still, as a family, following your every mile and enjoying hearing your descriptions of your journey. Hope you stay safe and have a successful remainder of your trip!
