It has been my dream since I was 13 years old and began single-handing, to one day sail solo around the world. I am 16 years old and this blog will contain the story of my attempt to become the world's youngest solo circumnavigator. Visit my official website at www.abbysunderland.com.
Lovely video!
ReplyDeleteTypical brother/sister quick hug there Zac! ;-)
Abby you look great. Good to see your brother and Dad there with you. I can tell you can't wait to get back out on the sea again. Good luck. Always following you.

That's one heck of a cheese burger. We're you able to open your mouth that wide? lol
ReplyDeleteI thought we'd see you taking a huge bite out of the cheeseburger while you were trying to keep your balance on the non-moving dock!!! LOL!!! Great to see you, Abby!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Abby, You look great!! It's so nice to see you with your dad and brother. "Wild Eyes" looks great too. You know the old saying, "if the boat looks good, she sails good (sic)". Get some rest and enjoy. You deserve it!!
ReplyDeletePrayers,
Nina from MdR (Cat. 42)
That's really cool! I've been to a few places around the world -paris, and germany- and that sounds like LOADS of fun! I'll continue to read your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see and hear you Abby. The break will do you good. Enjoy it. Then go finish your voyage.
ReplyDeleteIt was exciting to see you coming in on the video. I can't imagine living on board a boat for over a hundred days. That alone is quite a miracle!
ReplyDeleteAbby... Great videeo. So happy you are safely in Capr Town..

ReplyDeleteThanks to Jeff Ayliffe for sharing the video. That's a great video. Thanks also for sharing your pictures. Have fun out there Abby and get some rest.
Abby and Team,
ReplyDeleteThanks to Jeff for sharing the video and it was great to meet family friend Erik Bjerring of Wiltel Marine.

U r an absolute role model!...omg.. and credit not only goes to you but to your parents...It takes an insightful parent to allow their child to take on such a responsibility...
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to see you and Wild Eyes in action!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see all the jackets. Somehow I was expecting it to be warm in Cape Town.
You are a true sailor, Abby, sharing your mixed feelings about having to come in even temporarily. Sure could tell how much you love it out there!
Enjoy your shore leave ... you and Wild Eyes will be off again before you know it!

Wonderful video, Abby. And Laurence, I TOTALLY AGREE - low expectations (in everything) bring adverse results. Set the bar high and do hard things. Abby, you rock totally.
ReplyDeleteGood Job so far.

I am glad you are ok. Glad to see your family with you. Enjoy the pit stop and then back to your journey which is admirable. My prayers are with you for health and a safe journey. Mayrah,
ReplyDeleteHi Abby, Great job!! Sooo glad you made it to Cape Town for some repairs and to meet your family. Please post more pics and video. I know you are disappointed that you had to stop for repairs, but it’s better to be safe. Enjoy your stay, make those repairs and return to the sea where you are most happy!! Safe voyage!!

Lovely to see your video coming in. That SHOE CITY thing really cracks me up.
ReplyDeleteOne note about the youtube. When it's played, there is a tie-in to a two-headed co-joined twin video. Bizarre.
Enjoy yourself in Cape town!
What a great video. I enjoyed seeing the interviews especially the one with Laurence.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it should not surpise me to hear some of the most insightful words ever spoken coming from the mouth of Laurence Sunderland ~ "if you have low expectatons, don't be surprised if your kids don't do anything"
Congratulations Abby, you are an amazing woman.
Abby,
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures and video. You have plenty of work to do, but find time for some fun while in Cape Town. I didn’t see Katherine in any of the pictures or the video, but I’m still wondering if she might sneak onboard Wild Eyes before you shove off. Take care, Abby.

Amazing girl.
ReplyDeleteTeam Abby: I owe you all a beer. When Abby left MDR, I bet Grant that those roll up sides on the dodger wouldn't last past 20 S. Let me know how you want to collect !

Congrats on this segment of your journey! I am keeping up with your historical trip, and you have inspired me to take up some beginning sailing in freshwater.

HOPING FOR A FULL REPORT ON THE ENGINE AND AUTOPILOTS.
ReplyDeleteAbby ... When you blog again, please let your mind open to us all about the fix ups on Wild Eyes and all that's happening in re-stocking your supplies for the next leg.
ReplyDeleteSuggestions:
What happened to the engine?
What's being done to the wind generators?
How's the auto pilot repairs going?
What type of new food will you be bringing on board as you depart? Fresh fruit? Exotic desserts? Leftovers from Cape Town dinners? Something you tried from a street vendor you now can't live without? "Oh those meat pies from Jamaica..."
Buying new clothes? Beanie?
Looking for the new kitten?
Daydreaming if you should attempt a stowaway of the local guy you met last night? :-)
Dear Abby,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the video! My 3rd graders are enjoying the opportunity to follow your blog. You are such an inspiration to them. Keep up the good work and be safe.
Ms. O. and 3rd Graders
PS If you could give us a shout-out in one of your blog posts, we would be overjoyed!
We are still in your corner. You are going to complete your goal. Since it is now around alone.......maybe stop at Sydney ?
ReplyDeleteSince the official "world" record is still up for grabs now, why not make CT your start/finish. Either trade Wild Eyes for a stout Eastern route vessel, head back out around Cape Horn and trek that way towards summer or you can now leave Wild Eyes in CT for a few months come back (swapt it out even for a non-racer) and continue all the way back in the approaching summers down there. You have more than 12 months to re-do it all now.
ReplyDeleteHi Abby,
ReplyDeleteI think what you have accomplished so far is amazing and something to be very proud of. As far as your critics go for not doing it non-stop and unassisted - forget them. You are doing something that only a handful of people could do so hold your head high and have a lot of fun when you can. You go girl - live your dreams.
You are a brave and inspiring young lady! Good luck on your journey!
ReplyDeleteHi Abby, Nice to read your Blog
