Abby to Arrive at Reunion Island

At approximately 8am on Saturday, June 26 (9pm Friday June 25 Los Angeles) Abby will arrive in Reunion Island where Zac and some of the support team are waiting. International media will be there to greet her and she will do a short press conference on arrival.

We’ve spoken to her briefly over the past week and she is looking forward to seeing everyone again. She is looking forward to blogging again and is already looking to future plans and goals.

She will then travel back to LA where she will do a press conference on Tuesday June 29 at 10am. Press accreditation is required for members of the media. This will be given by email and you will be required to show identification with company logo at the door.

To obtain accreditation please email info@mercerpr.com with details of your organisation. For more information please phone (USA) 310.776.7557.
Australian media enquiries please call 0413.749.830.

Thank you again for the many messages of support we have received.

  8. I hope Abby lays into the press for making up news about her. I've never seen a better example of yellow journalism. Reports on the "reality show" are unique. Interestingly, the show didn't sell because the Sunderland family was too "ordinary", but ironically, after the lies, the show could get picked up.

    Welcome home Abby.

  12. Abby,
I am so glad to hear that you are just hours from a reunion (on Reunion Island; how apropos) with your brother and members of Team Abby. I can't wait to see your press conference on Tuesday... I wish that I could bend my schedule to be in LA. You are a remarkable person in every way that can be measured. Your sailing prowess and professional handling of all the issues that you managed and endured on your adventure are the stuff of legend! Add to this your efforts to write a book and now, your ability to hold a Press Conference. You are one fantastic individual; I applaud you and I thank you. You are truly an American Hero!

  13. Wonderful news!!!

What a reunion that is going to be . . . I wish I could be there not just to welcome Abby myself but to witness what is bound to be a powerful moment for Abby, her family, and Team Abby!

    Be well . . .

  16. Great news Abby. Weve been following the weather patterns since you were rescued. We lost track of Wild Eyes. No body is talking. I beleive Wild Eyes was sunken. I'm sorry to be the first to inform you. Could you update your blog and let the world know what has happened to Wild Eyes. We all know that Wild Eyes was you best friend and that it was heartbreaking for you to set her adrift.

Thank you Abby for sharing your life with us, the general public. Even the actors and actresses don't share their lives with us.

Buy for now Abby. Welcome Home.

    GO GIRL GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Abby, be strong, be tall, and reach for the stars. You have been half way around the world and now you get to tell the world your story! I am sure that it will be great.

Do not listen to the naysayers among us, they are small people that cannot even start to plan for the adventure that you have been on. These little people amuse themselves by throwing stones at other people and imaging that this act makes them bigger.

We will await your updates and the book.

We also expect that you will be back on the water at some point, please keep us informed of the progress of the next adventure.

  25. In just a few more hours big brother will wrap his arms around Abby and she will know that this adventure is over. The news media here in the U.S. might be civilized but just remember that you guys can cut off the press conference anytime things get stupid. You're not obligated to tell them anything. This still is a free country I think. There are so many people around the world that love Abby and respect everything she did so negativity from the media or anywhere else, means nothing. Welcome home Abby!!!! The world loves you.

  26. Welcome home, Abby. You have every right to come home with your head high. Wish you the best and keep going after those dreams. Do you have a new sibling, yet ??? That will be exciting to come home to a baby.

  29. welcome home Abby;Wouldnt it be a wonderful event and found Wild Eyes off the coast of Perth it appears that she is drifting in that direction.Chin up Abby keep shooting for your goal and dont listen to the media they are thier own worst enemy; half of them dont understand what sailing is about. Much success in your future; "Happy Sailing" cant wait for the book.

    ReplyDelete
  30. As is everyone, I am so glad you are safe. Those hours when we didn't know were difficult, and even more so for you. While unfinished, this adventure has been one of celebration. We celebrated when you decided to go, and we celebrated when you found a boat and you and Zac sailed it home. We celebrated when you took off (though with some tears) and I celebrated your chance to spend some time in beautiful Cabo. Hey, it could have been worse...

And then we celebrated when you crossed under the cape and celebrated when you got the pilot to work barely enough to get you to Cape Town. Everyone celebrates in Cape Town... its such a cool place and your family has good friends there now, providing even more reason to celebrate! We celebrated when you took off again and especially when you were found dry and safe and ready to follow yet another twist in your adventure.

An adventure, Abby, is when you set out to do something and you don't know how its go9ing to end. You're approaching the end of a marveous adventure that, while not what you planned exactly, will still change your life.

Get home to your loved ones for the ultimate ceolebration... the birth of a new brother or sister.

Regardless of the details, this has been an adventure full of celebration! We all love you Abby.

  31. Too bad you didn't get picked up by a boat headed for Australia, so you could meet Jessica, but how fitting to have your big brother there!

Hopefully some of the media furor has died down and there won't be too many negative nellies there. Those of us who have followed you from the beginning know the true story.

And remember what I keep saying (from the Wilderking trilogy): live the life that is set before you!

    ReplyDelete
  32. WELCOME HOME ABBY! When all is said and done, remember that you are still a 16 year old kid! Let others deal with the media hoopla and ignor the negativity. Believe it or not, your adventures are just beginning. Life is one big adventure, and this is the time you can let others take care of you. Relish your sailing adventure, enjoy your youth, and hold on to your dreams. Keep on truckin' girl, the best is yet to come. Gus

Abby, everyone in my office was aware that I had been following your voyage every day and when you sent out that distress signal I was working at my desk when my son yelled out of the back office "Abby is in trouble!"Since that moment we were all glued to our computer and tv sets for 20 hours untill the Australian search airplane finally found the boat and you were aboard alive and in good condition.
I think the whole world was relieved.

  71. I haven't heard very much negative spin about Abby. The law of the sea comes to bear in this sort of situation and it is an old law indeed. Ms Sunderland certainly had all her safety devices registered and in working order. Also the SAR outfits in maritime countries train for this sort of thing because life saving is what they do and they are justly proud when they can pull a person from the brink. Sometimes people tend to place some sort of monetary value on a rescue, and forget that they are talking about someone's life. It is fortunate that the system worked in this case and that's really all there is to it.

  98. Welcome Home Abby (by the time you read this). Looking forward to a news conference where you are there to answer the questions instead of the media making their own news.

Thanks to you and your whole team for sharing with us. It is the next best thing to being there with you. If it wasn't for modern technology we would not be able to follow you like this.

    God Speed...

  101. There seems to be less news about Abby and more about control, damage or otherwise, since the hiring of a media relations firm.

This is not a media event, it is just the story of a teenage sailer who had the misfortune of being overtaken by a savage storm, her vessel dismasted, becoming adrift in the open ocean and finally being rescued at sea through international cooperation. The rescuers simply abided by the law of the sea. We seldom see this kind of cooperation between countries. It's refreshing.

Rid yourselves of the media relations firm, tell the story, sell the book and movie rights, make new plans and move on. Who cares what people say about you and what others perceive as poor judgement and parenting? It is simply none of their business. It's becoming tedious.

  103. Abby:
    GO GIRL GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to all who posted the links to the news coverage of Abby's Reunion homecoming.

Abby, you look absolutely wonderful, I especially love the smile. The smile says it all, you really enjoyed every minute of the trip and I believe that you will do the adventure again, and it will not be a long time in coming.

Rest and relax with Zac, the rest of the Abby team, and the good people on Reunion. This is another chapter in the book of life. You may never pass this way again, so, make the most of what time you have. Then enjoy the flight home, there are many, many interesting places in the world, but there is nothing like coming back to the USA. When you get home enjoy the spirit and warmth of family, they are your greatest supporters and your best friends. Be especially good to your Mother and the latest addition, you need their strength and they need your strength.

At home, in comfortable surrounding, work on the book, catch up on school work, get ready for the next school year, and DREAM some more. Never let anyone rob you of the dream. Start now to plan the next adventure. Write down what you did and what you carried that was of little use. Write down what you did not do and what you did not carry that could have been of use. These little details will be lost in the mists of time when you embark on the next adventure.

Abby, about all, just be Abby! Do not worry about what people say should be Abby or what people say is wrong with Abby. Do not concern yourself with the narrow minded bigots among us that carry on about you, your age, your parents, and other such trivial details. These people imagine that they can grow stronger by throwing rocks at the few among us that try to live a little while we are traveling on this earth. These people make big plans to travel a few miles to the mall and spent other peoples money. For them this is the highlight of the week. They could not even find the North Star in the night sky if their life depended on it, much less travel alone out of sight of land. You are a star, Abby, you light up the sky with your smile and you are the beacon by which others may steer. How many young girls (and guys) are out their now that are saying this is what I want to do, or saying that maybe I can climb the mountain, or starting to just believe that the dream can come to reality. Abby, even in "only" getting half way around the world you have made a beacon for so many people that you have never met. One day, when you are as old as I am, you will be somewhere and a person will come up to you and ask if you are the Abby, you will say yes. This stranger will then tell you how they were inspired to do something when they saw you adventure. This is the legacy of your trip.

Abby, never give up the dream.

    GO GIRL GO!!!!!!!!

Dearest Abby, You, Zac and your parents are the greatest hope for our country. I don't know what your other siblings have to give to the world but you have done a lot for all of us. The snivelers have no idea what they are talking about. Much love to all your family. You make me so proud to be an American.

    Hi Abby,
WELCOME HOME, I’m really glad that all your traveling is behind you now, and that you are safe at home.
I read some news articles in regards to the homecoming and the meeting with the media. I was very proud of you and the way you handled yourself, but thoroughly disgusted with some of the comments that followed. I pray that these comments will be ignored by you and your family. I do hope that someday you will write a book and that if you so desire, you will sail around the world. I admire your spirit and attitude, so keep your chin up and don’t let the naysayers bother you.
Loads of love and hugs, and remember God is always with you.
Your faithful friend, fan and follower.
    Michael (75) from Kingwood, WV
